Community Safety and Awareness Report for Monday, June 27th, 2011

•The Redway Community Services District is having trouble meeting its demand. Crews are staged to begin work on our infiltration gallery July 1st, regulators permitting. They are asking Redway water users to please start conserving now. The community’s efforts last season were excellent and saved the day.

•Roadway improvements and paving operations will continue on Redwood Drive and on Sprowel Creek Road.  The construction zones will be subject to one-lane, stop-controlled traffic during the operations.  Please use caution and be patient when driving in the construction zone.  For further information, please contact the Humboldt County Department of Public Works construction office at 445-7448.

•Caltrans announces that Big Hill Road at the intersection of Route 96 will be closed on July 5th and 6th from 7 am to 7 pm for an emergency project.  Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

•CALFIRE Defensible Space Fire Safety Inspectors may continue to work in Southern Humboldt today.  The inspectors will be in uniform and driving a marked CAL FIRE pickup. Anyone wishing to have an inspection of their property, please contact the Garberville CAL FIRE Station at 923-2645 and visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov for more information.

The Mendocino County Family Planning Program will close its clinic doors after forty years of service, effective June 30th.  If you have questions, or would like a list of referrals to family planning or STD testing services, please contact the Community Health Services Public Health Branch at 472-2700.

•KMUD’s Block Party is coming up this Saturday, July 2nd, and we need YOU to help with the fun.  If you can help, please call Cindy at 923-2513 extension 124.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for The Politically Correct Week in Review.  That’s tonight, from 7 to 8pm, right here, on KMUD.
