15-year-old Alana Hollis located and safe:
Alana Hollis is no longer missing. Alana was initially reported missing on Jan. 27 in Eureka and today around 2 pm, Alana was located and is safe.

 Water truck accident wrecks truck, driver escapes with minor injuries:
Today around noon, a Sidonie’s water truck, delivering in Shelter Cove, was backing up a steep driveway when the truck lost traction, plummeted 75 feet down a drop off and broke in half. Emergency response personnel say it’s a miracle the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Planning Commission says they want public input to influence marijuana ordinances:
The Humboldt County Planning Commission met this Thursday, Feb. 3. KMUD reporter Daniel Mintz is working on a full report for Monday, but wanted KMUD listeners to know that the planning commission did hear public comment about the draft medical marijuana ordinances. Commissioners stressed to the public that the draft marijuana ordinance is in a sketch form right now and the county’s growers and medical marijuana advocacy groups will be given time to present their own versions. The hearing was continued to May 12.The Planning Commission also considered permitting two dispensaries in Humboldt County. A permit for the Hummingbird Healing Center in Myrtletown was approved. The Planning Commission deliberations for the Redwood Legacy Dispensary in Garberville was continued to March 3.

Activists working to stop the Richardson Grove Improvement Project hung a new banner near Richardson Grove State Park today. For pictures of the banner see the article following today’s Synopsis.

Four of five Point Arena City Council members face a recall effort:
A recall has been launched against four of the five Point Arena City Council Members. David Ingham, Eloisa Oropeza, Joe Riboli and Vice Mayor Lauren Senate are named in the recall. Supporters of the recall would need to gather at least 74 signatures on the petition. If they succeed an election would occur about 125 days later.

Prescription drug round-up a success:
Public Health agencies around Humboldt county are working with waste management districts to eliminate antibiotics and hormones in our water supply. On Jan. 15 the "Prescription Drug Round- up in Eureka" netted 851 pounds of medication. If you missed the Prescription Drug Round up, you can still safely dispose of medications in the Eureka area. Open Door clinics have bins at 3 sites, the Eureka Community Health Center, the McKinleyville Community Health Center and the Humboldt Open Door Clinic. “Love Your Mothership” opens tonight:
The Mighty Mateel Players, a local theater group, performs a play written by local playwright, Al “Owl” Ceraulo. The play, "Love your Mothership", starts tonight and continues Feb. 5-6 and then again Feb. 11-13. Tickets ($12-20, sliding scale) are available at the door. Doors open: 7:30 pm – Show time 8:00 pm / Sunday Matinees:  Doors: 1:30 pm, Show time: 2:00 pm. For more information call the Mateel Community Center at (707) 923-3368.

Mateel Community Center work party starts Monday:
Bruce Champie has been with the Mateel Community Center since the beginning, and says after two decades the building is in need of repair. Community members, including Champie, have been gathering for work parties to chip away at the repair list and invite other interested folks to join their work party on Mondays 10 am – 4 pm. 

Green jobs focus of state budget plan:
Democratic lawmakers have unveiled a package of bills they say will create jobs and address climate change. Christopher Martinez reports from Sacramento.

DFG SHARE program works with private landowners for Aleutian Goose hunting:
The CA Department of Fish and Game (DFG) says they’re offering north coast Aleutian Goose hunts in Humboldt and Del Norte counties in February and March. A total of 1,720 acres on five properties will be available to hunters on designated days in late February and early March. Applications to DFG must be received by Feb. 10, 2011.  More information and applications are available on California Waterfowl Association’s website or by calling (916) 445-4034.

KMUD will be broadcasting a 2-hour special from Democracy Now!, on location in Egypt, this Saturday morning, starting at 8 am. At 10 am Sat., KMUD will re-broadcast the Local News from the Friday evening broadcast, and "New Dimensions" will air at 10:30 am.
